How I started Colorado Search

Then.

1996: At the not-quite-ripe young age of 25, I started Colorado Corporate Search with my “Denver Dumb Friends” rescue puppy, George, by my side. Until its wind-down twenty years later, we placed hundreds of Director, VP, and C-level professionals in finance and accounting positions in the greater Denver area. Our final hire was the CFO of a bootstrapped and scrappy Colorado publicly traded company, which has since increased nearly 250% in revenue.

2003–2008: I taught career strategies – emphasis on negotiations and marketing – in the MBA program at the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado, Boulder. And I was a regular speaker at the Rocky Mountain Chapter of Financial Executives International.

2003–2017: Bought several investment properties, grew the portfolio from zero to 55 units. Learned lots!

Now.

Fast forward to 2025, and now my company is called Colorado Realty Search. I am using the domain name I’ve owned for almost 30 years, it’s just been re-purposed. It’s the ultimate in lazy efficiency.

These days, I’m primarily a real estate investor myself. Our current office dog (and co-pilot) is a 93-lb German Shepard mix named Buck. He isn’t quite as smart as George, but he’s pretty cute and he loves shopping for tile and our frequently hosted foster kittens.

2023–today: After studying like crazy, including taking class binders with me on two vacations, I passed the national real estate licensure test – on the first try – with a 94%.

1998–2025: I have made damn near every mistake on my own flip projects and (if you’re open!) will help you not learn things the hard way.

Education.

1993: I earned my Economics BA (with a minor in Rollerblading and parking tickets) from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Progeny.

I’m the proud parent of two rising CPAs. Both are majoring in accounting (one is also double-majoring in finance) at the Leeds School of Business at CU-Boulder. Big 4, here they come!
